I understand under dog of the week as apreciation award for something that was near getting frontpaged, but didn't.
From what I remember I believe Under Dog is a weekly award that you get for stuff that has a sort of cult following so basically you have a higher Review Score than the score of the actual content. It's basically to say that not everyone liked your stuff as much as the majority of people that leave very high scoring reviews and the best ratio gets the award on every Wednesday. So I think its very similar to Review Crew Pick.
Again I could be wrong but that's what I remember it being lol
